The Full Story

When you live in four different homes over a five year period, in three countries across two continents, it quickly becomes clear what gives soul to a home.  Some homes have it in spades while other struggle to find a purpose.  Some homes are endowed with character, built by skilled craftsmen and artisans that carefully and purposely create.  Other homes need that character to be introduced somewhere along the way.  â€‹To me, the most unforgettable homes are those that are not only beautifully crafted, but whose design is woven with the stories of those who live there.  They invite you to really feel something when you step into them because they reflect those stories.

I learned this as my young family moved from house to house to house...to house.  We were lucky to live in some beautifully designed homes, though it was our story, our memories that truly brought them to life for me and it was that combination of beautiful design and our story that made them unforgettable.  There is magic in creating a home for a family that can do more than serve as a backdrop for their lives, that instead, can be a character in it.  A home can spark connection; evoke feelings of comfort or calm; provide solace or sanctuary; create a sense of elegance, energy, ease or nostalgia - it can be a truly transformative experience.

Meet Natalie Francoeur

founder and lead designer

With a background in hotels and hospitality consulting, Natalie brings a refined, service-driven perspective to the world of interiors. Her creative journey began in London, where she studied interior design and immersed herself in the refinement and character of the British style. Later, while living in Canada, she continued to shape her design philosophy before returning to her native Massachusetts to establish Emerson & Folly Designs.

Grounded in her global experiences, Natalie’s work is distinguished by its thoughtful layers of color, pattern, and texture—blending old and new with ease. She believes the most beautiful spaces aren’t just designed, they’re felt: homes that tell a story, hum with character, and reflect the people who live in them. Through Emerson & Folly, she creates interiors that are timeless, inviting, and deeply personal—rooted in emotion and connection.

At the heart of her work is a design ethos that is refined and resonant, resulting in homes that feel approachable, lived-in, and intentionally collected over time.

Design Philosophy

We believe a home should spark connection; evoke feelings of comfort or calm; provide solace or sanctuary; create a sense of elegance, energy, ease or nostalgia.  We begin every project by taking the time to fully understand what that feeling needs to be for our client.

Our thoughtful use of color, pattern and texture help to create a distinctive mood for each place we create.  By blending old and new together, we can create interiors that are layered, timeless and feel intentionally collected over time.  The result is a home that is deeply personal  and unmistakely felt.
